2.2.3 Carbon emission models

This chapter describes the dozen different models developed for the different sector groups to estimate Scope 1, 2, and 3 carbon emissions based on assets’ characteristics and data availability. As explained, we distinguish between ABMs, which translate an asset’s operational, consumption, or production level into emissions, and RBMs, which rely on reported emissions and assets’ characteristics. For each model, we summarise specific characteristics and provide the model type, data, and EFs or functions used for the prediction.

Our models cover subclasses with significant carbon emissions for which we have enough data available, leaving less representative and less accessible sectors for future improvements. In total, our current models cover 60+ TICSS subclasses. Appendix I and Appendix II provide a detailed overview of all ABMs and RBMs.
