Model 12: Distribution Networks (IC80)

The TICCS superclass IC80 (Network Utilities) includes electricity, water, and gas networks, among others. For this superclass, we focus on all subclasses for which we have reported data or can predict emissions. We apply RBMs based on publicly available information on 50+ network companies reporting Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions, including the number of customers and employees. Additionally, we include assets’ revenue data (converted in USD) from infraMetrics.

We model Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions in tons of CO2 based on a function of revenue, number of customers, and number of employees. For each scope and for each subclass (type of utility network), the model chooses the best combination of available regressors to establish a prediction. Hence, two assets belonging to the same TICCS class but not reporting on the same subjacent variables can receive estimates from different models. However, all models require an R2 score of above 0.2 in order to predict emissions.
