Model 11: Roads (IC6050)

The TICCS industrial class IC6050 (Road Companies) describes different types of road assets, including bridges and tunnels. For this industrial class, we focus on all subclasses for which we have reported data or can predict emissions. We apply RMBs based on publicly available information on 100+ roads reporting Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions, including the roads’ length (in km) and the number of lanes for each asset.

We multiply these two quantities to produce a variable representing the road area and the volume of traffic. In case of missing lane numbers, we use the overall mean to compute the road area. We also include road assets’ revenues and macroeconomic variables (e.g., inflation and the GDP growth rate) of the country where the asset is located. We consider these variables as the economic development of a country has an impact on road infrastructure and traffic composition. We model Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions separately based on functions using assets’ road areas, revenues, and macro variables.
