Model 9: Ports (IC6030)
The TICCS industrial class IC6030 (Port Companies) describes different types of port assets. For this industrial class, we focus on all subclasses for which we have reported data or can predict emissions. We apply RBMs based on publicly available information on ports’ revenues (in million USD) and throughputs (in million twenty-foot equivalent units TEUs) as these variables show strong relationships to ports’ reported emissions. We model Scope 1 and 2 emissions in tons of CO2e based on a function of revenue and throughput.
As the different sources of Scope 3 emissions related to ports’ activities (e.g., the contribution of shipping, rails, and road transports) are complex to estimate and hardly reported, we do not model Scope 3 emission estimations for ports.
