Where is the data sourced from?

Answer

Annual financial data for private companies are sourced from a combination of private company filings with regulators, tax authorities, and other government agencies around the world and primary data vendors who obtain such data from private companies. Data, thus sourced, is subject to a rigorous quality check, standardization, and review process, before being added to our database.

To screen out private companies that are not typically private equity investable, we filter the universe of companies put together as described above, to resemble the universe of companies regularly observed in private market transactions. Through this process, we arrive at the largest dataset of PE-backed like companies, that form the source of our indices and benchmarks.
