How do you estimate Scope 1 & Scope 2 emissions?

Answer

Broadly, we differentiate between two types of models to estimate Scope 1 and 2 emissions. Regression-based models (RBMs) combine reported emissions with one or more asset-level characteristics (such as revenues, production, energy consumption, size, customers, etc.) to build statistical models. Activity-based models (ABMs) use one or more emission factors (EFs) per unit of activity to convert an asset’s operations into estimated emissions.

Things to consider

Scope 1 and 2 emission projections follow the growth patterns of the emissions in each country. The growth rates are determined by the level of alignment with the Paris Agreement.
