2.3.2 Data

To provide quantified physical risk metrics for specific physical assets, four key inputs are needed:

  • detailed asset boundaries that define the size and geolocation of each asset,

  • global climate hazards information to specify the proximity to a potential hazard (e.g., the distance to the sea or a river),

  • associated damage functions that provide the level of damage severity for each hazard type, location, and asset subclass, and

  • financial information for each identified asset (e.g., total asset value and revenue) extracted from infraMetrics to quantify the financial impact of each physical risk.

Combined, these inputs serve as proxies for an asset’s exposure and account for its vulnerability to a hazard event.
